A police driver kidnapped earlier this week was publicly shot dead on Thursday by suspected militants from the local Islamic State affiliate in Sinai, Egyptian security officials said.

They said three masked militants and the policeman arrived at the residential al-Masaeed district of the coastal city of el-Arish in a green pickup truck. The policeman, blindfolded with his arms and legs tied by a robe, was then brought out and shot twice in the head before the militants returned to the car and sped away.

Iranian Revolutionary Guard ships conducted a "high-speed intercept" of a U.S. warship in the Strait of Hormuz Tuesday, coming within 300 yards of the vessel, according to multiple reports.

A Defense Department official told Reuters that the U.S. ship was "harassed" by the Iranian vessels; the official charged that Iran had been "conducting a high speed intercept and closing within a short distance of Nitze, despite repeated warnings."

"The Iranian high rate of closure... created a dangerous, harassing situation that could have led to further escalation, including additional defensive measures by Nitze," the Defense official said.

A Minnesota man who survived a 2007 bridge collapse in Minneapolis that killed over a dozen people has been charged with conspiring to support ISIS, federal prosecutors said Wednesday.

Mohamed Amiin Ali Roble, 20, is accused of traveling to Syria and joining the terror group just after he turned 18 — and using a more than $91,000 settlement to fund them, the FBI said.

A newly created Iranian military unit seeks to carry out the destruction of Israel within the next two decades, a former senior military commander said last week. Retired Iranian Revolutionary Guards General Mohammad Ali Al Falaki claims the recently formed Shi'ite Liberation Army will wipe out Israel through extraterritorial military operations, the Jerusalem Post reported Thursday.

The military unit has been tasked with fighting from Iraq, Syria and Yemen with the goal of ending the Jewish state, according to an interview with Iran's Mashregh news agency. The mission statement is to "eradicate Israel after 23 years, especially that these battalions are now on Israeli borders."

An international team has concluded that the Assad regime and Islamic State militants carried out chemical attacks in Syria during 2014 and 2015.

The team from the UN and the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) accused the Syrian government of using chlorine gas in two attacks and Isis fighters of using mustard gas in one.
