A federal jury convicted a man who tried to set off a bomb in downtown Oklahoma City.

Jerry Varnell was charged with attempting to build a weapon of mass destruction to destroy BancFirst in downtown Oklahoma City.

Police said Varnell attempted to build a car bomb. FBI officials said someone told them about his plan in December of 2016, so an undercover agent stepped in.

The FBI helped give him explosives that were inert to help make the bomb.
