At least 15 people have been killed in an attack on a security checkpoint in southern Thailand, including a police officer and many village defence volunteers, according to an army spokesman.

The incident late on Tuesday was the worst single attack in years in a region where a separatist campaign has killed thousands.

The attackers, in the province of Yala, also used explosives and scattered nails on roads to delay pursuers.

At least nine members of an American family, including six children, were killed in an attack in northern Mexico on Monday, the Mexican military has confirmed.

The family was ambushed by an armed group while traveling from Bavispe in Sonora state to the town of Galeana in Chihuahua state between 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. local time, according to Mexico's security minister, Alfonso Durazo.

The area where the attack took place -- less than 100 miles from the Arizona border -- is of territorial dispute by several cartels, and it's possible the family's convoy of cars was mistaken for one of them, Durazo said at a press conference Tuesday morning.

Three women and six children were killed in the ambush, according to Durazo. Seven other children survived the massacre and were left injured, while another initially went missing.

Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday morning to address the brutal attack and offered to help Mexico flush out "these monsters."

A year’s worth of debate over the Southern Border wall and a flood of immigrants made it simple to forget Montana shares 545 miles with Canada.

On the Northern Border, the terrain and weather combine to create a natural border wall of sorts. It’s wide open and wild. The men and women who patrol it worry about terrorism, drugs and human trafficking.

All this November, NBC Montana is proud to invite you on a one-of-a-kind trip to meet the people who work Montana’s Hi-Line.

The UK's terrorism threat level has been downgraded from "severe" to "substantial", the Home Office says.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the UK was still at "a high level of threat" and an attack could "occur without further warning".

The terrorism threat is now at its lowest since August 2014. Substantial is the third of five ratings at which the threat level can stand.

The separate terrorism threat level for Northern Ireland remains "severe".

Ms Patel said in a statement on Monday that terrorism remained a "direct and immediate" risk to the UK's national security.

A Norwegian man suspected of killing his stepsister and opening fire in a mosque near Oslo in August has appeared in court.

22-year-old Philip Manshaus, who faces terror charges, appeared for a brief court session at which his preliminary detention was extended, Norwegian media including VG reported.

Manshaus was initially remanded in custody in August, suspected of murder and a "terrorist act" that police say he filmed himself committing.

The 22-year-old has admitted killing his 17-year-old step sister Johanne Zhangjia Ihle-Hansen, who was found dead in her apartment in Bærum on August 10th.

He also admits attacking the mosque, but denies charges of terror.

He entered the Al-Noor mosque and opened fire before he was overpowered by a 65-year-old man, also on August 10th.

Just three worshippers were in the mosque at the time, and there were no serious injuries.

Police have said he has "extreme right views" and "xenophobic positions" and that he had filmed the mosque attack with a camera mounted on a helmet. He had initially denied the accusations.
